Chamber to host 82nd annual awards banquet

LIVINGSTON — The 82nd annual Livingston-Polk County Chamber Banquet has announced award winners for their Thursday, Jan. 25 event at 5:30 p.m. in the Polk County Commerce Center.

Highlights of the evening will include awards for Polk Countian of the Year, community service and a business of the year. A year-end review and look ahead to 2018 with the incoming chairman will also be part of the festivities.

Rev. Jim Mayland of Trinity Lutheran Church will receive the Polk Countian of the Year, largely due to his efforts with the Center of Hope’s Campaign 300 and Hurricane Harvey relief.

The Bradford at Brookside is the Business of the Year for its management and organization of the staff. It was the highest rated facility by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability, Texas Health and Human Services, and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Amanda Martinez and Kevin Grimm will be honored with community service awards. Martinez has operated Grace Pregnancy Outreach Center since 2015 and works to raise money for child care and Grimm is the co-owner of Texan EMS who mentors underprivileged children.

Last year’s winners included John D. Clifton as Polk Countian of the Year, Nita Bowen and Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 8568 Honor Guard as community service award winners. For Business of the Year, both the Williams Firm and Thomas Mercantile were awarded.
During the reception, guests can socialize and enjoy a glass of wine and appetizers, as well as a performance by “Polk County’s Got Talent” winner Kaden Glover.

Catered steak dinners are served at 6:30 p.m. as guests learn of the chamber’s accomplishments over the past year.
