PCSO targeting DWI, seat belt violations


LIVINGSTON – Polk County sheriff’s deputies will be out in full force starting Memorial Day Weekend, working the highways in an effort to reduce alcohol related incidents and ensuring motorist are properly wearing their seatbelts.

According to Sheriff Kenneth Hammack, the Texas Department of Transportation also has designated May 23 through June 6 as a Click-it-or-Ticket awareness campaign and is funding overtime pay for Polk County deputies to enforce the state’s seat belt laws.

In the past, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office has been part of “No Refusal” saturations of the county.

“These saturations focus on alcohol related incidents in an effort to provide safer driving conditions for the public. We notify the public or our intentions which also works as a deterrent for would-be violators,” he said.

Hammack urges citizen to safely enjoy your Memorial Day Weekend and have designated drivers if they choose to consume alcoholic beverages. He also reminds citizens all occupants of the vehicle are required to use safety belts.
