Diderich said he con- tacted McDonough who recommended he get in- volved with the Master Naturalist program and through that group could become involved with the plant restoration project. One of the major bene ts Diderich has found in his involvement is the contact he has had with the school students.
“One of the problems of getting old is you nd you’re dealing with old people. This project al- lowed me to work with young people and that is something I enjoy,” he added. “Hopefully, the kids bene t as well from this multigenerational thing.”
The estimated cost of the 10-year project is $200,000, of which about $40,000 has thus far been raised – half from a fed-
eral grant and half from donations.
McDonough noted that LLFoR now has a Busi- ness Leaders’ Council which is composed of businesses and individu- als who have agreed to donated $500 per year to the project. He noted they hope to qualify for $10,000 grants every oth- er year and that the dona- tions are sought to carry the program through the period between the grants. Those wishing to vol- unteer to work with the group may contact Pam Klouda at 936-933-7462 or by email at tobydoo07@ yahoo.com. Klouda main- tains the list of volunteers and noti es them of up- coming planting or propa- gation events.
Those who wish to make a nancial donation to the LLFoR project may contact McDonough at tlm77351@iCloud.com.

Children and teenagers in the world’s devoloped countries have a more than 50 percent chance of living past 100. By the early 2100’s, in other words,
being a centenarian will no longer be a rarity. In fact, it will be the norm.
